Using ground-facing data projectors, Habitat projects a virtual submarine ecosystem onto the floor of the installation space, dynamically generating and decaying banks of coral based on the social gatherings that are observed within the area, and tracking the movements of virtual fish that interact playfully with the individuals in the space. Thus the virtual actors, and physical actors co-inhabit the installation space, creating a strong visual metaphor by which to see and understand the complex social behaviours that are exhibited by the participating people.
